Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias attempted a bunt leading off the 3rd inning in the first game of a double-header against Kansas City on Friday. Instead, the pitch from Royals pitcher Danny Duffy—recalled from AAA as KC’s 26th man for the double-header—smacked Iglesias right where he should have been wearing a jock.
Ouch! Iglesias bunt vs. Danny Duffy turned out to be a painful experience. Who said baseball wasn’t a contact sport?
Iglesias’ suffering did little good for the Tigers, who lost both games of the double-header to KC 2-1 and 3-0. Eric Hosmer was the hero for the Royals, hitting a home run in each game and driving in 3 of the 5 Kansas City runs on the day. Hosmer now leads the Royals with 14 HRs this season. The twin victories pulled Kansas City within 6.5 games of first place Detroit and .5 games behind 2nd place Cleveland.
